Alzheimer's Care That Adjusts as the Disease Progresses

Alzheimer's is common, and the support someone needs changes over time. We adjust care as it progresses instead of asking a resident to move to a new home.

How Alzheimer's Progresses

Care that changes shape as the disease does.

Early Stage

Short-term memory lapses, trouble finding words, and difficulty with complex tasks like managing finances. Many people are still largely independent, but benefit from routine and gentle support.

Middle Stage

Usually the longest stage. Confusion deepens, help is needed with daily tasks like dressing and bathing, and behavioral changes like agitation or wandering often begin.

Late Stage

Full-time care is typically needed for all daily activities, including eating and mobility. Communication becomes limited, and comfort-focused care becomes the priority.

At Penda Homes, a resident doesn't have to move to a new facility as they progress through these stages — the level of hands-on support simply adjusts around them.

Both Penda homes are owned and operated by a licensed Registered Nurse, which matters most as Alzheimer's advances — recognizing a stage transition, a medication issue, or a new health concern takes real clinical judgment, on site.

Alzheimer's Care FAQs

Common questions.

An estimated 7.4 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's in 2026 — about 1 in 9 people in that age group. Risk rises sharply with age, from roughly 5% at 65–74 to about 36% at 85 and older, according to the Alzheimer's Association.

Common early signs include short-term memory loss, difficulty finding words, misplacing items, trouble planning or problem-solving, and withdrawing from work or social activities. A doctor should evaluate any suspected symptoms.

We evaluate each situation individually and can often support a resident as their needs progress, rather than requiring a move to a different facility.

Room, meals, 24/7 caregiving, medication management, and daily support are included. Rates start at $4,500/month, depending on room type and care needs.

Yes, we stay in direct contact with your resident's physician or specialist about care planning as the disease progresses.
