Understanding Parkinson's

A movement disorder, not necessarily a memory one.

Parkinson's disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that primarily affects movement. Its core symptoms are bradykinesia (slowness of movement), tremor, rigidity, and problems with balance and posture. As it progresses, walking, talking, and swallowing can become harder, and some people experience depression, sleep problems, or cognitive changes — though many people with Parkinson's have no memory issues at all.

In its most advanced stage, someone may be unable to walk or stand without help and need assistance with nearly every daily activity. Support can look very different early on versus in late-stage Parkinson's, which is why we build a care plan around the individual, not a standard checklist.
